Moose Milestone

If you've been following me for a little while, you might remember the little rant I wrote a year ago about the fact that I had never really seen a moose.  That's right. I had never seen a moose, despite the fact we've camped in Ontario "moose country" many, many times. This was frustrating for me. In fact, I was beginning to feel rather un-Canadian. And I was starting to think that I had a better chance of seeing a unicorn than a moose. Many of you thought this was all very funny.

But this weekend, my Canadianess was restored. I felt like I had finally passed the Algonquin Initiation.

We saw six moose over our long-weekend trip to Algonquin. Five were bulls. All of them were huge and awkward looking with deceptively gangly-looking legs. They were also shedding their winter fur, giving them an almost mangy look.

And every one of them were absolutely magnificent.
