The Best Christmas Tree Ever! Finding our tree at Will's Christmas Tree Farm

Every year, we buy a real Christmas tree. And every year, we put a great deal of thought and effort into making sure it is the "right" Christmas tree.  Happily, we've nailed it each and every time. In fact, every year we declare that this tree is the best tree we have EVER found!  Spoiler alert..... We did it again! Honestly - this year's tree really is the best one ever. I know because as I write this post, I can see the tree out of the corner of my eye. It is a beauty.

We started visiting local farms to cut our own tree three years ago, and each year we have visited a different farm.  Why? Mostly because we like a bit of adventure and seeing new places. This year, we found the perfect tree at Will's Christmas Tree Farm, located just outside of Hamilton, Ontario in the rural village of Lynden. We found out about Will's from a tweet by Ontario Wood - a Government of Ontario program focused on raising awareness of locally grown, locally made wood products and encouraging people to buy local.

Will's farm has a bit of a tourist-destination vibe. Horse-drawn wagons will take you to the cut-your-own section. Tractor-drawn wagons will bring you back to the hub of the farm, where you can have your tree shaken to get rid of loose needles and bound for easy transport  - free of charge.  Once you've done the hard work of finding and cutting your tree, you can grab a bite to eat from the on-site food trailer and sit around a very large campfire as you take in the sights and sounds of the farm. With warmed toes and a full belly, you can then spend some time in the large Christmas store, also located at the hub of the farm activities.  If heading out to the tree lot and sawing your own tree trunk isn't your thing, the farm also offers pre-cut trees for sale.

We skipped the wagon ride and chose to walk out to the trees. There wasn't any snow, but there was a bit of a chill in the air and we were excited to carry on our family tradition.  So were a lot of other people. The farm was busy! But even with a lot of visitors, we didn't feel crowded or delayed and the staff were well-organized, polite and helpful.

It didn't take long for us to set our sight on what could be the perfect tree. We checked it out from all angles and measured it (twice) to be sure it would fit the perfect spot we had chosen for it in our home.  Yes! This was the one.  And with a team effort, we made it our own with some quick saw-work.

At the end of our visit, we loaded the tree into the truck and, surrounded by the intoxicating smell of fresh pine, we felt that annual glow of satisfaction that we had once again found a great tree.  Wait. Not just a great tree.... the BEST tree EVER! (This year).
