Family Fishing Week...Don't forget the bait!

There are just a few days left in Ontario's Family Fishing Week.  Not sure where to get bait? No worries - just hit the vending machine!

Yup.  Live, wiggly, slimy worms in a can.  Thanks, Rockwood Conservation Area, for making fishing just that little bit easier!

  1. That's so cool! Never thought I would ever see a live bait vending machine.

    1. Too funny, isn't it? The worms-in-the-can were actually really nice and fresh. LOL! Rockwood is the only place I've ever seen a vending machine like this.

  2. Try this if the vending machine is broken :
1.Use a water hose to wet your soil behind the vending machine, if your soil is not wet already.
2.Stick the two metal rods into the soil, about four to six feet apart so they are standing upright.
3.Put on rubber gloves and attach the jumper cables to the car battery. The black clamp attaches to the negative end of the battery and the red clamp attaches to the positive end.
4.Attach the other end of the jumper cables to the metal rods. A current will now be sent into the soil.
5.Wait roughly half an hour for the worms to rise to the surface.
6.Disconnect the jumper cables from the metal rods and car battery.
7.Search for worms in the area around the metal rods. Scoop them up and place them in the bucket. The paper towels in the bucket will provide insulation.

    1. Thanks for the tips! I've heard of this before.... Personally, I'm not convinced I want to start playing with electricity and wet soil just to get some worms. Knowing me, the outcome would be a little shocking. And I don't mean for the worms. But I'm sure there is someone out there willing to try it!
